TRAINING ZONE

Whether you’re a sportive veteran or a first-timer, you’ll find all the information you need to kick-start your training here with training plans, group riding etiquette, nutrition and hydration advice, what kit to wear and lots more.

Why not join our official Etape Loch Ness Strava club – a great way to keep in touch with other riders training for Loch Ness. We’ll be sharing lots of training tips to help you on your Etape journey and would love to hear how your training is going too.

Training Plans

Slow and steady wins the training race. The Etape Loch Ness route is designed for people who lead an active lifestyle, and is achievable as long as you’re prepared to train. Build up mileage gradually to avoid injury and over-exercising, also to create a good base fitness on which to build the stamina levels you’ll need. Before starting out it’s a good idea to see your doctor for a medical or health assessment, particularly if you smoke, are overweight or there’s a history of heart disease in your family.

Former international road cyclist and British Cycling Level 2 coach, Kenny Riddle will be sharing his knowledge as you gear up for the Etape Loch Ness.

Clothing, Kit & Bike Maintenance

At this time of year choice of clothing is critical especially if you’re climbing up to heights such as the top of Glendoe (King of the Mountain stage) where the weather can turn very quickly. Please be aware that weather conditions can change and deteriorate rapidly in the Scottish Highlands and you should bring appropriate clothing to keep warm in any adverse weather. Check out our mandatory and recommended kit list below.

Getting Your Nutrition & Hydration Right

Getting your nutrition right can make all the difference to getting across the finish line and enjoying your ride. We’re delighted to have HIGH5 on board as our sports nutrition partner to provide you with sports nutrition on course.
